Jane Kays LaMar, aged 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Born on February 23, 1953, Jane was a devoted educator and cherished member of her community.
Jane was the daughter of the late Virgil and Vivian Kays. She graduated from Harrison High School in Evansville, Indiana, in 1971. Following her graduation, she pursued higher education at Indiana University and the University of Evansville, further cultivating the knowledge and skills that would define her professional career.
In 1977, Jane married Dennis LaMar, who preceded her in death. Together, they made their home in Indianapolis. Jane dedicated herself to a career in elementary education, teaching for 39 years with a passion for nurturing young minds.
Beyond her professional life, Jane enjoyed various hobbies that brought her joy and relaxation. She was an avid practitioner of needlework and quilting, activities through which she expressed her creativity and patience. Additionally, she found pleasure in tending to flowers, cultivating beauty in her surroundings. Time spent with family and friends held a special place in her heart, underscoring her warm and caring nature.
Jane is survived by her son, Drew Roger LaMar, and her sister, Kathryn Lynne Kays Stewart. They carry forward her memory and the values she imparted to them.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care - Indianapolis Chapel, located at 8151 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250. This will be followed by a memorial service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the same location, where family, friends, and colleagues are invited to celebrate Jane’s life and contributions.
Jane Kays LaMar’s life was marked by dedication, warmth, and creativity. Her memory will be cherished by those who knew her and by all whose lives she influenced through her work and kindness.
