James' “Jay” Armour Schill, 73, of Indianapolis, died on October 4th, 2026. Jay was born on March 7th, 1953, to the late Jerry Schill and late Mary Ellen McCarthy Schill in Indianapolis, IN.
Jay grew up in Indianapolis and enjoyed many adventures riding bikes with his best friend, Bill Stephens, and running errands for his beloved mother. His dedication and service to the Catholic faith was highlighted through his rigorous education at Cathedral High School and Bishop Chatard High School (1971) and service as an altar boy in the Catholic Church. Jay was widely known for his keen sense of humor and his strong devotion to his family. He was an avid storyteller whose funny and quick-witted nature brought much light and joy to those fortunate to have heard his many tales, especially during sorrowful times. Jay was an avid tinkerer who adamantly asserted he could fix anything, except for a broken heart. The routine check-in questions about the status of his loved ones’ vehicles and the variety of clocks sounding simultaneously will serve as delightful memories for those continuing his legacy. One of Jay’s greatest achievements was raising his late daughter, Nicol. Their strong bond was shown most often through their daily chats and animal rescue efforts. Their final rescue mission concluded with Cookie the cat who dearly misses her favorite companions. Jay also took great enjoyment in spending time with his grandchildren watching classic Western TV shows, playing with his train set, and simply sitting on the porch together. He took tremendous strides to create special memories for his family through beautiful birthday parties, meaningful breakfast get-togethers, and notable one-liners. Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Schill and Mary Ellen McCarthy Schill; brother Kevin Schill; and daughter Nicol Schill. Jay is survived by siblings, Judi Hansell, Terry (Pam) Schill, Sharon (Jeff) Gilchrist, Sandy (Gary) Ready, and Bonnie (Michael) Bruner; grandchildren, Brittany (James) Stewart, Michael Stewart, and Shanna Stewart; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
