James Douglas Jansen, 82, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026 at Woodbridge in Carmel IN. He was born on March 13, 1944, the son of the late Nicolas and Alma (Ulrich) Jansen. He graduated from Gannon College in Erie, PA and proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Texas and attained the rank of Second Lieutenant.
James was the devoted husband of Audrey Jansen, his partner in all things and his greatest joy, who preceded him in death on December 19, 2025 after 56 years of marriage. Together, they shared a bond that was truly inseparable, whether at home or exploring the world side by side. Their love was evident to all who knew them, a steady and enduring example of deep companionship.
He found great happiness in life’s everyday pleasures. James and Audrey spent countless hours traveling to new places, tending to their garden, and creating meals together in the kitchen. Their love of travel led them to purchase a second home in Sarasota, Florida, where they created many treasured memories together. These moments, filled with laughter and warmth, were the heart of his life.
James will be remembered for his quiet strength, his kind spirit, and the deep love he had for his wife and the life they built together.
His is survived by his sister Judy (Gerald) Baracka of Cincinnati Ohio and sister-in-law Bernadette (Charles) Csernik of Fort Mill South Carolina.
He is survived by nieces and nephews Christine (David) Heider, Mark (Wendy) Baracka, Cheryl (Paul) Lepp, Caroline (Tom Bohn) Baracka, JoAnn Baracka, Rennae King, Darlene (Ken) Konopasek, Frank (Lisa) Csernik and Cheryl (Jim) Hemsoth
He is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Preceded in death by his sister-in-law Mary Ann Desser, nephew Michael Baracka and niece Carla Baracka Seitz.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
