James Ollie Humphrey

April 25, 1930 — July 2, 2025

Indianapolis

James Ollie Humphrey, age 95, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

He is survived by his brother Virgil Humphrey, daughter, Lisa (Brian) Corcoran, granddaughter Hannah (Steve) Masleid, grandson Cameron (Ariana) Schlobohm and great grandson’s Davis Urquhart and Landon Tiller. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, his wives, Dorthey Humphrey and Teresa (Terry) Humphrey, his daughter Vicki Lynne Schlobohm and grandchildren, Heather Hagy and Harrison Hagy.

Born in Kentucky, James spent most of his life in Indianapolis, Indiana. He became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1957 and remained a faithful servant the rest of his life. He worked at Ransburg Corporation until his retirement in1985, then founded his own business, Painting by Electrostatic, continuing to work well into his late 80s. One of his proudest accomplishments was painting the three-mile fence surrounding Crown Hill Cemetery, a feat that earned him recognition in the local newspaper.

James served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and often credited his discipline and strong work ethic to his military experience. Though he left formal education after the tenth grade, he never stopped learning. He had a passion for music—encouraging his grandchildren to play guitar—and loved studying the Bible, particularly its history.

He will be remembered for his deep love for his family, kindness toward animals, and unwavering generosity—often helping the homeless and feeding stray animals in the neighborhood. James also enjoyed word puzzles, good food, and driving his beloved Lincoln Town Car.

James touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
