James Freeman

James Freeman, "Happy Jim" age 87, passed away Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at Greenfield Healthcare Center in Greenfield Indiana. Jim was born on May 7th, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York. He loved everything New York, like the NY Nick's, the NY Yankees, and the Giants. 

He was a very active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, with 37 years of sobriety when he passed. Jim and his longtime partner Marti played a significant role in keeping the doors open at Pathway to Recovery in its early years. Jim would often say " I'm a happy alcoholic named Jim”, thus the title Happy Jim.  Within those 37 years, he made a big impact on many lives, often sacrificing hours with newcomers. He would take them to meetings, detox, treatment, or his house to carry the message of hope to the hopeless. Jim would listen and share simple solutions. He will be missed by many.
