James R Allen

Our beloved James Robert Allen,76, went to be with the Lord on 11/13/2024, peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. 

Jim (JR) was born March 10, 1948, in Covington, Kentucky to the late Lillian R. Allen and James Allen. 

Jim was a member of the US Army and served in the Vietnan War. In 1970 he met and married his beloved wife, Patricia (Horstman) Allen and together they shared 3 beautiful daughters: Melissa J. Smith (Bob Smith), Evelyn R. Mulherin, Mandy M Taylor (Randy Taylor). He adored his 7 grandchildren: Jacob Snyder (Andrea), Cierra Padgett (Brandon), Jozie Lambert (Cody), Nicholas Mulherin, Madalyne Wilson, Jackson Smith and Dalton Smith as well as 9 great grandchildren. He is survived by 4 sisters and a brother, and many nieces and nephews. Jim also discovered in 2021 that he had fathered a child in Vietnam and was able to connect with her. Thi Yén Lê (Trong) granddaughter, Thi Tâm and grandson Ðien Phan ( Thi Xuan) and 3 great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian; father, James, and sisters, Jackie and Karen.

James worked at Allison Transmission for over 30 years, until his retirement. He was an avid softball player as well and coached all 3 of his daughter’s softball teams. 

You could always find him watching an IU basketball game, or a Sunday Colts game. He also enjoyed fishing with his family and loved going to the casino with his wife.
