Jacqueline S Rexroat died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the age of 68. She is survived by her daughters: Laura (husband Todd) Vermillion and Markie (fiancé Nick Economou) Cook; her grandchildren, Annalyse and Garrett Vermillion; her siblings, Teresa (late husband Don) Johnson and Steve (wife Cathy) Taylor; along with many nieces and nephews. Jackie was born on October 9, 1956 to John (called Jack) Taylor and Velma Huck Taylor at St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove. The family lived in Indianapolis, Indiana where she remained the rest of her life. Jackie was the third child out of three. She graduated from Scecina Memorial High School, Indianapolis in 1974 and took college courses in English, Math and Psychology at Ball State University and IUPUI, ending up just 6 credits shy of her associate’s degree. She found gainful employment at various businesses in Indy, spending the longest time with the cable company, initially known as American Cablevision, from May 1983-September 2000, on to several insurance agencies that downsized until gaining employment at Anthem, Inc from 2006 to 2021. She worked from home for Anthem.
In high school, the marching band was often described as one of the great joys of her life. She was in the flag/auxiliary corp until she went to the instrumental side to play the trumpet. This three-year period provided wonderful enrichment and taught her life lessons she kept until the end.
In June 1976, Jackie was introduced to her future husband Mark at Arthur Murray’s Dance Studios where he was an instructor. They married in 1984. Her own daughters, Laura Ann and Markie Alyse were the joy and purpose for her life; these two brought in the “reals” of life and Jackie always said how fortunate she was to have been their mother. Mark’s daughter, Rebecca Mullinix played a large part in Jackie’s life in her 20’s and 30’s; her stepdaughter later became mother to seven children and she now has several grandchildren of her own.
Jackie was born and baptized into Little Flower Catholic Church, began to search and started studying The Word with The Way Ministry in 1978. In 1989, she transferred her membership to Downey Avenue Christian Church, a Disciples of Christ congregation. She served on the diaconate, Membership and Faith Ministries, Christian Women’s Fellowship, was an adult and children’s Sunday School Teacher and sometimes drove others to Worship Hour. She was happy to play the trumpet in the service once.
She loved spending time with family and friends, especially fond of the bond that was made from friends made at DACC. She also loved the time spent with her high school friends Theresa, Rosie, Ann, and Gary and the friends that came later, Don, Gail, Laura H and Beth.
Her very favorite times were cooking large holiday dinners for the family, celebrating Christmas, and birthdays. She especially loved having the grandkids stay all night to play, make up games, cook, play guitar, sing and laugh. There was a lot of laughing.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, feel free to honor Jackie by sending donations to Riley Children’s Hospital.
