Jack Wendell Holding

Jackie 'Jack' Wendle Holding, 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on September 4, 2026. Born January 1, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jackie was the son of Samuel and Margaret Holding. Through a life marked by steady devotion and quiet strength, he remained deeply rooted in the place that shaped him and the people he loved most.

A hard-working and loyal man, Jack dedicated 43 years to the City of Indianapolis, serving as a mechanic at the wastewater treatment plant. His long career reflected the kind of dependability that cannot be measured only in years, but in the daily commitment of showing up, doing the work well, and taking pride in providing for his family and community.

Beyond his work, Jack found joy in the simple and enduring pleasures of life. He loved to fish, and he carried the same steady focus and determination into the game of softball—playing until he was 73. His devotion to the sport took him nationwide, traveling to compete in tournaments and building a life rich with camaraderie, purpose, and the satisfaction of staying active and engaged.

Above all, Jack was a beloved, loving, and caring father and grandfather. He is survived by his children, Jacklyn Boswell, Jack “Sam” (Stephanie) Holding, Bart (Kim) Holding, and Terry (Mary Jane) Holding. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christy, Jeremy, Chloe, Katie, and TJ; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Larry (Dian) Holding and Peggy (Gary) Fish. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Holding, and his parents, Samuel and Margaret Holding.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Indiana Funeral Care West. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time. Jack will be laid to rest following the funeral at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 N Holt Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
