Harriet Jane McKenzie

January 28, 1932 — September 2, 2021

Harriet Jane McKenzie, with her family by her side, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on the 2nd of September, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the loving and loved wife of the late Thomas J. McKenzie for 60 years. She had recently moved from Marionville, Missouri to live in Indianapolis with her youngest son and daughter in law, Mark and Kris McKenzie. Born in Kalona, Iowa in 1932, she was the daughter of the late H. Vernon Beck and Ethel Viola Beck (Snair) and sister to the late Dick Beck.

Harriet was a devoted housewife and homemaker her entire adult life. She also loved children, teaching and mentoring them and enjoyed working in childcare. After she and Tom moved to Marionville, she enjoyed serving others by working with her best friend Shirlene in the Thrift Store at the Ozark’s Methodist Manor. Harriet loved the Lord and was an active member of the United Methodist Church wherever she lived; always singing in the choir where her beautiful soprano voice could be heard praising and worshipping our Lord and Savior.

Harriet was kept very busy during the first 20 years of marriage raising 4 rambunctious boys. She is survived by her four loving sons and their families; Bruce McKenzie and Ruta of Christchurch New Zealand; Craig McKenzie and Donna of Downers Grove, Illinois; Scott McKenzie and Joni of York Pennsylvania and Mark McKenzie and Kris of Indianapolis. She was the truly loved grandmother of Timothy, Rachel, Lisa, Brian, Jason, Nick and Meghan, and her 10 great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Ozark’s Methodist Manor, 205 South College, Marionville, MO 65705

Harriet’s family will be holding a small ceremony celebrating her life on the 10th of November 2021. Harriet's earthly remains will be interred with her husband Tom on the 70th anniversary of their marriage at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
