Gloria Lee Bibbs

November 27, 1951 — April 2, 2025

Indianapolis

Survived by loved ones who will forever honor her legacy, Gloria Lee Bibbs (73), left this world peacefully bound for Heaven on Tuesday, April 2, 2025.

Born November 27, 1951, Gloria, the daughter of Bob Elam, Geraldine Moss, and Hue Bennie Moss was born in Indianapolis, IN where she attended elementary schools’ Number 6, Grandview Elementary, and North Central High School. During her high school years and after graduation, she was employed at the Learners Department Store in the Glendale Shopping Center.

In 1972, Gloria met and married the love of her life, Richard Bibbs. They remained married (45 years) until his death on February 11, 2017. Together, they were known for their house parties, poker playing skills, and other fun games. They also enjoyed traveling with their friends and family. Richard and Gloria’s union was blessed with two beautiful children, Richard Kyle and Dana Rae, and two of the world’s cutest dogs, Denzel & Dewayne (she also loved her previous pets (all Boxers): Camacho, Lieutenant, and Tiger).

At an early age, Gloria gave her life to the Lord. She was baptized at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church where her love for singing began as a member of the Junior Choir. While there, she also served on the Junior Usher Board. Later, she transferred her membership to Mt Carmel Baptist Church where she was a faithful member (35 years). For as long as she had lung capacity, Gloria loved singing in the church choir.

After 37 years and 8 months of faithful service to the United States Government Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Services, Gloria retired December 15, 2008, to become the primary caregiver for her husband, Richard, her aunt, Nellie Clardy, and her mother, Geraldine Moss. In addition, she helped her son build and manage his successful business, Bibbs Hauling, LLC until her health did not permit.

Gloria was loved. She won her Daddy’s heart and was the first to drive his riding lawn mower. She also learned to drive a stick shift car before many of her sisters! She loved interior home decorating, playing bingo, going to casinos, and shopping with her sister-friend, Marilyn Yates. She truly enjoyed a good ol’ fashioned home cooked meal and would have voted herself the better cook of her sisters. She had a brilliant eye for fashion. In fact, many here are probably wearing something of hers today! She was known for being a no-nonsense “Aunty” and powerful Mother figure and was likely the source of her nieces’ and nephews’ first whippings.

Gloria also loved fiercely. Her kindness was extended to everyone. She and her family had and maintain a bond that will last for generations, and she was happiest when everyone was together. When her time came to require care, her children, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends worked tirelessly to ensure she received nothing but the best. It was an honor. She lived an extraordinary life surrounded by people who adored her.

Blessed to have loved her and left to cherish precious memories are her mother, Geraldine Moss, her son, Kyle (Brett) Bibbs, and daughter Dana (Marvel) Chatrie; Sisters: Willie Mae Simms, Dorothy Louise Bailey, Gustanna “Gus” Chaney, Anita (Randy) Taylor, and Kathy (Greg) Wilson, and sister-friend Marilyn Yates; Brothers: Joe (Veronica) McGowan, Bennett “Benny” (Alice) Moss, Jimmy Moss, and Bruce Moss; dedicated friends, Bobbie Taylor and Marilyn Yates; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her fathers, Bob Elam and Hue Bennie Moss; her husband, Richard Bibbs; her brothers: Danny Ray Moss and Clifton Sanders, Jr.; her father and mother-in-law, Bennie and Ernestine Bibbs; sister-in-law Beverly Maharry; and her brother-in-law, Ralph Bibbs.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty. I will say of the Lord, he is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in Him will I trust. Psalms 91:1-2
