George G. Miller

December 21, 1938 — January 9, 2025

Indianapolis

With heavy hearts, the Miller family announces the passing of George G. Miller who left this world on January 9, 2025. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, George lived a life rich with love and kindness. He was known for his humble integrity, his quiet generosity, and his willingness to serve others. He had a great love of nature and growing things. He dabbled in painting, sculpting, poetry and he was a pretty good cook. He read voraciously and could carry the conversation on nearly any subject and if he believed it, it was probably true.

George was a graduate of Thomas Carr Howe High School in Indianapolis and Indiana University, where he was a Member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He worked the entirety of his career for Indiana Bell/AT&T/Ameritech. George and his wife Jan both managed to retire early, which made it possible for them to travel around the country and the world. They lived most of the time in their home in Indianapolis but for 25 years, they wintered on Siesta Key.

When they were home, George focused on his great avocation…that of Grandfather. Grandpa Miller rarely missed a sporting event, or a theatrical performance and he was devoted to the care of his two grandchildren with special needs. Sleepovers at Grammy and Grandpa’s were always the rage, and it was hard to get the children to come home afterward.

George was a devoted husband, parent, grandparent, and friend. He is survived by his wife Jan (Schroeder) Miller and his children, son Mark Miller with wife Jodi, son Jeff Miller, and daughter Michelle Moore with husband Collin. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Christopher John Moore, Benjamin George Miller, Alaina Riley Moore, Jackson James Miller, and Nathaniel Phillip Miller along with many beloved friends and extended family members. George was preceded in death by his father George A Miller, mother Margaret (Gaston) Miller, sister Carol Miller and granddaughter Catherine Ryan Miller.

Visitation and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 16th at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250 with visitation from 11:00am to 1:00PM. The memorial service will follow at 1:00pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his well lived life with our family.
