Gary Lee Shumaker

Gary Lee Shumaker was born on October 14, 1957, in Greencastle, Indiana to Forest and Joyce Shumaker. He grew up in Indianapolis with his two younger brothers, Mark and Brian Shumaker. Gary had many friends in his neighborhood, school, and church growing up. He enjoyed talking on his CB radio to nearby truckers passing by the interstate near his house. He also enjoyed some DJ work on his High School radio station. Gary graduated from Warren Central High School in 1976.

Gary worked a variety of jobs throughout his life: JC Penney, Davidson Lumber, Best Lock, Stalcop, and Celadon. His kindness and engaging personality always made him enjoyable to work with.

Gary met his wife Kelli at a Waffle & Steak where she was working as a waitress. Kelli said she thought Gary had money because he would always order steak, one of his favorite foods. They were married on Saturday, April 7, 1984. God blessed them with two children, Scott and Kimberly. Gary and Kelli were married for 42 years.

Gary accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour at summer camp in the 9th grade. He grew up at Franklin Road Baptist Church in Indianapolis. The Lord directed he and Kelli to Heather Hills Baptist Church, for a time. In 1998, Gary and Kelli joined Lighthouse Baptist Church where he was an active member until the time of his death.

Gary loved music and played the bass guitar as a young man. His interests included fishing, camping, cheering for his favorite sports teams, card games, board games, and word puzzles.

Gary went to heaven on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Joyce Shumaker. He is survived by his brothers Mark (Penny) Shumaker and Brian Shumaker. He is also survived by his wife Kelli, son Scott (Yvonne), daughter Kimberly, and granddaughter Everley.
