Fletcher Lee Johnson Jr., 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025.
Fletcher, who most knew as Lee, was born on December 26, 1951, in Ocilla, Georgia to Fletcher and Annie Johnson. Lee was a bright and driven young man who graduated as valedictorian from Ocilla High and Industrial School in 1969. During his time in school, he proudly served as president of the Future Farmers of America, reflecting his early love for the land and leadership qualities that would stay with him throughout life.
Lee moved to Indianapolis, IN right after high school in 1969 and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 14, 1970 attending the North Congregation. His unwavering faith and dedication formed the bedrock of his lifelong friendships. Lee had a strong love for Jehovah and His organization. Even before he began serving as an elder in 1982, his deep compassion and selfless nature always drove him to support and uplift those around him. Through decades of service as an elder and pioneer, he played a vital role in nurturing and strengthening the congregations he attended, including College Park and Springmill.
On December 26, 1982, Lee married the love of his life Brenda Sue Tucker. Upon marrying Brenda, he embraced her five-year-old son, Devin, with a father’s heart and raised him with unwavering love and devotion. Together, they later welcomed a daughter, Brittany, completing their loving family.
Lee dedicated his career to skilled technical work, beginning as a television repairman before moving on to roles at 3M, where he serviced copiers. He later worked with Kodak, repairing and installing hospital imaging equipment, and eventually retired from Carestream after a long and respected career.
He enjoyed the simple, meaningful things in life—fishing, gardening, tinkering with equipment and lawnmowers, spending time with his family and friends, and watching cartoons and westerns. His unique sense of humor and warm presence made family gatherings especially memorable.
He also had a few favorite treats that brought him joy: pork rinds, Georgia pecans, grapefruit, and above all, cheese.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Annie Johnson, and sister, Hazel Kpotufe. Lee is survived by his loving wife Brenda Johnson; son, Devin Clark (Sarah); daughter, Brittany Johnson; sisters, Minnie Wheeler, Margaree Johnson, Mae Lizzie “Janie” Johnson, Jerlene Moore (Larry), Patricia Harris, and Phyllis Johnson; grandchildren, Ravin Clark, Niya Henderson (Bralen), Malachi Clark, Mia Clark, Naomi Clark, Ruth Clark; and great-granddaughter, Nora Clark. Lee also leaves to cherish his memory a wealth of nephews, nieces, family and dear friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his deep kindness, genuine love for others, and hard work and dedication to those in need.
Memorial services for Lee Johnson will be held on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at The Grand Hall at Westlake located at 400 N. High School Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46214. Visitation will be held 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. and a memorial discourse at 3:00 p.m.
