Evelyn Kidwell, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Greenwood, Indiana. She was born on November 14, 1931, in Lebanon, Indiana, and lived a life marked by love, laughter, and simple joys.

Known fondly to most as Aunt Evelyn, she had an easy-going, carefree personality that made people feel instantly at home. She delighted in sharing stories and spending time with her beloved dogs. Family meant everything to her, and she showed that love through her time, attention, and genuine interest in each person’s life.

Evelyn’s one true love was her devoted husband, Orville Kidwell, whom she married in 1964. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with shared adventures and deep companionship. Their journey took them to Indianapolis, Boston, Munster, and New Port Richey, creating meaningful memories wherever they called home. As a couple, they enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, and lovingly raising their dogs. They were also proud and enthusiastic fans of Notre Dame football and the Indianapolis 500.

An avid reader with a sweet tooth, Evelyn found comfort and joy in books and desserts. While living in Florida, Junior lovingly built her a personal library, which continued to grow throughout her life. Many of her treasured books were later donated to the Salvation Army, allowing others to enjoy the stories she loved so much.

Evelyn returned to Indiana in 1999 and was a constant presence at all important family events including showers, weddings, birthdays, and IU tailgates. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and the Hope Restored Widows Group. In her later years, she found great comfort in the compassionate care of the staff at Aspen Trace and in the companionship of her sister-in-law, Nancy Kidwell Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Gladys (Nance) Dickerson; her sister, Alberta Dickerson; her brother, Jim Dickerson; her son, Danny Ray Hite; and her husband, Orville Kidwell Jr.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Kidwell Johnson; nephews Keith Johnson (Erin), Benjy Johnson (Jenny), Alex Johnson (Sabrina), Nicholas Johnson (Laurie), Nathaniel Johnson, Rick Hale (Barb), and Sam Hale (Candy); nieces Jackie Dickerson and Melissa Fields (Dallas); and many loving great-nieces and great-nephews.

Evelyn Kidwell will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her deep love of family, and the warmth she brought to those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and quiet joy that will be cherished always.
