Eugenia “Genia” Francis Mayhew
Eugenia “Genia” Francis Mayhew, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Anderson, Indiana, Genia spent much of her life in the Indianapolis area, including in the communities of Plainfield and Avon.
Genia proudly served as a corrections officer, a career that reflected her strength, courage, and unwavering commitment to protecting others. She carried that same dedication into every aspect of her life, whether it was helping a friend, supporting a family member, or standing up for what she believed in.
Outside of work, Genia had a deep passion for cooking. Her kitchen was a gathering place filled with laughter, love, and the comforting aromas of her homemade meals. She also had a love for motorcycles and sharpshooting competitions, where her competitive spirit and fearless nature truly shined.
Genia will be remembered for her bold personality, her strong sense of justice, and her deep love for family. She was the kind of person who showed up when it mattered and made you feel seen and heard. Her strength, honesty, and heart for others left a mark on all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving family and many close friends, all of whom will miss her dearly and carry her memory forward with pride.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with Chris Brewer as the guest speaker beginning at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and share stories, memories, and love as we honor Gina’s remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Genia’s name to a local women’s shelter or a charity of your choice that reflects her spirit of strength and service.
