The Final Disappearing Act

In his most astonishing feat yet, master illusionist Eric Andrew Spoelstra, 57, vanished from our world.

Born in 1967, to Myrtle and Herbert Spoelstra, Eric discovered his first magic set under the Christmas tree at age four—a moment when the universe revealed his true calling. Eric devoted himself to his passion for magic with unwavering dedication and a perpetual quest for self-improvement. As one of Eric’s friends said, “He was a magical savant, and his knowledge and skill was unmatched.”

A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Eric was an alumnus of North Central High School and pursued further studies at Vincennes University. He was also a proud member of The International Brotherhood of Magicians and enjoyed helping other magicians hone their craft.

He is survived by his siblings: a brother, David (Monna) Spoelstra, and a sister, Anne (Robert) Davidson; his niece, Heather (Stephen) Sexton, his nephew, Michael (Amanda) Davidson, and four grand-nieces and two grand-nephews. His extended family is scattered like a deck of cards across Scotland, Canada, and South Africa.

At the time of his passing, Eric was employed by Horseshoe Casino in Shelbyville. Prior to this, he had dedicated 19 years of service to Monarch Beverage.

As we say goodbye, we know that somewhere, Eric is still performing, finding coins behind unsuspecting ears, and reminding us all that true magic lives on in the memories we share.

Abracadabra, dear brother. You've made yourself invisible, but never forgotten.

For Eric's grand finale, a Celebration of Life and Broken Wand Ceremony (a traditional rite of passage for departed magicians) will be conducted on Friday, April 18 from 5:30PM to 7:00PM at Horseshoe Casino (4300 N. Michigan Rd, Shelbyville, IN 46176). Eric's final resting place will be in Colon, Michigan, renowned as "The Magic Capital of the World."

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to The International Brotherhood of Magicians' Youth Scholarship Program to help budding magicians attend the National Magic Conference to ensure that the next generation of magicians will continue to spread wonder and delight.

Please go to https://www.magician.org/portal/ibmccprocess and under “Type of Payment” select “Other” and in the “Additional Comments” section put: “Donation in Eric Spoelstra’s memory to the Youth Scholarship Program”.
