Eric Edward Shoop, 54, passed away on February 14, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 14, 1971, Eric was the beloved son of Patricia Alsabrook and John Shoop. He attended North Central High School and later earned his GED before proudly graduating from Indiana University in 2003 — a milestone that reflected his determination and perseverance.
Eric began his career with Overnite Transportation before making one of the most meaningful choices of his life: becoming a stay-at-home dad for 12 years. Those years were among his proudest accomplishments. In recent years, he worked as Retention Lot Manager at Oak Motors, where his steady presence and warm personality made an impact on coworkers and customers alike.
On September 28, 1996, Eric married the love of his life, Erica Magenheimer. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, music, and family. He was a devoted father to his sons — Dakota (and wife DJ), Colin, and Aiden — who were the hearts of his world. Whether teaching life lessons, offering steady support, or simply sharing a laugh, Eric’s greatest joy was being Dad. He proudly supported his sons in Boy Scouts of America, dedicating countless hours helping with Eagle Scout projects, always ready with steady guidance and willing hands.
A gifted woodworker, Eric created both practical and whimsical pieces — from birdhouses and yard decorations and display cases to handmade kitchen items — each crafted with patience and care. He had a deep love for music and in his younger years followed Grateful Dead, proudly embracing his inner “Deadhead.” His playlist always had room for Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, and Randy Travis, whose songs often filled the home he loved so much. He was also a avid "Pez" collector over the years.
Eric was a throat cancer survivor and faced his later battle with lung cancer with the same quiet strength and resilience that defined his life. Through it all, his humor, stubborn determination, and deep love for his family never wavered.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Marty Magenheimer; his brother, Brian Shoop; his niece, Jessica Howard; and his uncle, Bobby Taylor.
Eric is survived by his loving wife, Erica; his sons, Dakota (DJ), Colin, and Aiden; his mother, Patricia Alsabrook; his brother, Neil Staples and sister-in-law, Prerna; his aunts Theresa and Debbie; cousins David Craig and Josh Taylor; and his beloved cat, Charlie.
Eric will be remembered for his steady heart, his creative hands, his love of music, and his devotion to his family. As one of his favorite bands sang, “Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.” Eric was that light for so many. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the love he gave so freely, and the memories that will be cherished forever.
