Eric D. Higbie

August 2, 1965 — June 6, 2025

Indianapolis

It is with profound regret that we announce the passing of a cherished son and brother, Eric Higbie. Eric was born in 1965, and grew up on the east side of Indianapolis, graduating from Warren Central High School in 1983. While in college, he took a sabbatical for a semester and toured Europe, and was present at Check Point Charlie when the Berlin Wall fell. After graduating from IUPUI with a degree in chemistry, we pursued one of his passions in life: caving. He was active in the Central Indiana Grotto, mapping several caves, taking numerous Scout Troops, Church Groups, and other groups on cave tours, and serving as Vice Chair. As Vice Chair, he started smoking and drinking to complete the role. In his later years, he developed multiple sclerosis, and slowly withdrew from his professional job and caving activities as his health declined. He passed away peacefully in his parent's house on Friday, June 6. He is preceded in death by his loving mother Janet, and grandparents Luther and Geneva, and Bill and Aileen. He is survived by his father Tom, brother Jeff, and cousins Beth, Diane, and their husbands, Mike and Nathan. Services will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church,8320 E 10th St, on Tuesday, June 17. Viewing will be from 10-11AM, with a service at 11AM. A light lunch will be provided after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central Indiana Grotto, the Indiana Karst Conservatory, or the National Spelunking Society.
