June was born June 17, 1937 in rural Daviess County, IN, the daughter of the late Forrest and Grace (Smith) Meyers. She grew up near Loogootee, IN and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1955. She then moved to Indianapolis to live with an aunt and attend Lane Business School. She was a long time member of the Friends of the Avon Library organization; a member of White Lick Presbyterian Church, where she helped start a youth group and served in various leadership roles; and a member of The Gideons International.
