Listen to Obituary

With deep faith in God’s promises, the family of Eldyne Margaret Richardson of Carmel, Indiana, announces that she has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on March 15, 2026, at the age of 97.

Her family takes comfort in the words of Jesus in John 14:2–3 which held a prominent place in her home:

“In my Father’s house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Eldyne was born July 14, 1928, in McBain, Michigan, to Edward and Anna Koster. She grew up on the family farm in Missaukee County and remained close throughout her life to her brothers, Kenneth, Lester, and Stanley, who preceded her in death. She often shared fond memories of growing up in the close-knit Dutch community of Northern Michigan. From her homemaking mother she inherited a love of hospitality and community; from her father, a church organist, she gained a deep love and appreciation for music.

A lifelong reader and learner, Eldyne carried her love of books into her work as a librarian. She also enjoyed playing basketball in the barn with her brothers and cousins—something that later served her well as a standout basketball player on her high school team.

Eldyne met the man who would become her husband of 66 years, Donald Richardson, while they were in high school. Their life together took them from Michigan to Grant County, Indiana raising five children and later to retirement years in Noblesville, Indiana, and Florida. They cherished visiting their children and grandchildren across the United States. Eldyne created a warm and welcoming home and invested deeply in the communities around her, volunteering at local hospitals, serving faithfully in her churches, and supporting her husband throughout his career with General Motors.

Faith was the foundation of Eldyne’s life. Alongside her family, her relationship with the Lord was the most important thing to her. She was known for her quiet strength, deep conviction, and the hope and encouragement she shared with others. She remained active in church and Bible studies throughout her life and faithfully prayed each day for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild by name, as well as for friends, facility staff, medical team and those she encountered in everyday life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Richardson; her son, David Richardson, and his wife, Kristen Richardson; and her grandson, Blake Richardson.

She is survived by her children: Kim Richardson; Sandra (Mark) Troutman; Brent (Cheryl) Richardson; and Tammy (Steve) Quillin; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister-in-law Marjorie Koster; many deeply loved nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

A celebration of Eldyne’s life will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Christ Community Church, 13097 Allisonville, Rd, Fishers, IN 46038 with visitation at 1 PM EST prior to Celebration of Life Service at 2 PM EST and a coffee/dessert immediately following. A private family interment will take place in Michigan at a later date.

Her family gives thanks for the quiet faith that shaped her life and rejoices in the assurance that she is now safely home with the Lord.
