Edgardo Luis Perez, age 58, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on January 31, 2026. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Edgardo carried his love for his heritage, family, and community with him throughout his life.

Edgardo built a diverse and meaningful career, beginning in banking, spending many impactful years at State Farm in public relations and underwriting, and later working in contract IT. No matter the role, he was known for his professionalism, warmth, and ability to connect with others.

A devoted servant to his community, Edgardo’s involvement was wide-reaching and heartfelt. He served on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Lafayette, Indiana, was a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association, and played a key role in helping form the Purdue Latino Cultural Center—serving both on its steering committee and board. He was also a John Purdue Club member and an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lafayette.

Edgardo volunteered with the Tippecanoe Republican Party and was deeply involved with La Plaza in Indianapolis, where he advocated for Latino students’ educational success and helped connect families to health and social services. He also supported the Colt World Series in Lafayette by serving as a host family—especially cherishing the opportunity to host members of the Puerto Rico teams.

Edgardo loved staying busy around the house with projects, cheering passionately for his favorite teams (Purdue, the Steelers, and the Yankees), and caring deeply for animals. He always took immense pride in sharing his Puerto Rican heritage with those around him. Later in life, he treasured time with his grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his ever-present smile, and his unwavering pride in his family. A dedicated father and grandfather, Edgardo was always involved or present for his children’s sporting events—often becoming famously chatty with referees and even getting thrown out of a game or two. His commitment to family, community, and friendship left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Edgardo is survived by his mother, Luz Rodriguez; his sons Brennan (wife Katie; children Keane and Monroe) and Quentin (wife Nicole; son Harlow); his brother Omar; and his nephew Angel Omar and niece Valeria.

A celebration of Edgardo’s life will be held on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Arni’s Lafayette Market Square, 2200 Elmwood Ave., Lafayette, IN 47904. This will be a casual, come-as-you-are gathering with no formal attire required.

A formal funeral service will take place in Puerto Rico on February 21st with his family & friends back home.
