Doyle Simon Baker

Doyle Simon Baker, 82, of Greenfield, IN, passed away peacefully at his home on August 17, 2026. He was born May 18, 1944, in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Paul E. Baker and Mary Josephine (Miller) Baker.

After attending Assumption Elementary School, he attended George Washington High School. He was voted “Johnny Continental” and made many lasting friendships there.

With the help of his family, summer jobs, and part time jobs, he enrolled at Purdue University to study Industrial Arts. He wanted to become a full time teacher. He was offered a full time job with Eli Lilly. He worked and went to school to finish and receive his Master’s Degree. After 27 years at Lilly, the company offered an early retirement plan so he retired from Lilly and started a job teaching.

By this time he had met and married Rebecca (Becky Stinger). They were like “two peas in a pod.” It was two lives joined together from then on.

Doyle taught industrial arts at several schools, but his favorite was middle school, Paul Hadley Middle School mainly. After several years of teaching, he was ready to settle down. Doyle and Becky kept busy volunteering, gardening, traveling, and having lots of fun-filled days. Doyle was an easy person to talk to and many nights were spent out on the patio visiting with neighbors and family. Doyle was a board member on NineStar Connect for 9 years. He attended Outlook Christian Church as much as possible.

However, his greatest joy in life was the time that he spent with family, who will all miss him very much.

Doyle is survived by his wife, Rebecca Baker; his children, Denise, Douglas, and Chris Baker; step-sons, Bud Stinger and Steve Stinger; sisters, Hilda Sparks and Connie Hughes; sisters-in-law, Shelby Hobbs, Peggy Roy, and Vedia Baker; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Richard Baker and Mary Josephine Baker; sisters, Patricia, Janie, Marilyn, and Vesta; brother, Paul Richard, Lowell, Robert (Bob), Marion, and Edward.
