Dorothy L. Schoentrup

Dorothy (Dottie) L. Schoentrup, 81, died on October 9, 2019, at St. Francis South Hospital due to complications related to heart disease. She was born on October 9, 1938, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Walter McDonald and Francis (Skirvin) (McDonald) Thomas.

Dottie attended Decatur High School, class of 1956. She married William R. Schoentrup in 1956. They celebrated 63 years of marriage in May. She worked at many retail establishments including The Mart, J.C. Penney, and Meijer where she loved to socialize with customers. She enjoyed baking for her family and friends and was a talented cake decorator. She attended church services most recently at The Creek Christian Church in Franklin Township.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Karla A. (Schoentrup) (Schneider) Porter, her brother, Larry J. McDonald, her sister, Betty Jane (Thomas) Arble, and an infant brother. She is survived by her husband William (Bill) R. Schoentrup; son, William R. Schoentrup Jr. and his wife, Dennise, of Indianapolis; daughter, Lori G. (Schoentrup) Schwab and her partner, Ricky Brooks, of Indianapolis; 9 grandchildren, Amanda (Flannery) Wiggs, Christopher Flannery, Shilo (Schwab) Hundley, Sarah Shine, William R. Schoentrup III, Sabrina Schoentrup, Megan McCurry, Meagan (East) Hutton, Kaitlyn Schneider and Tracy Schneider; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother, William (Bill) Thomas and his wife, Jane, of Indianapolis and sister, Barbara (Thomas) Gilpin and her husband, Carl, of San Diego, CA.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14th at Indiana Funeral Care, 2433 East Main St., Greenwood, IN 46143. Visitation the same day will precede the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Procession to Acton Cemetery for Interment will follow the service. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association in her memory.
