Donna Jean Cummings

Donna Jean Cummings, born on December 9, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on January 7, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the daughter of John and Josephine (Barowski) Dixon, who predeceased her.

Donna had a distinguished career with the Internal Revenue Service, where she served as a Financial Agent for many years before retiring. A dedicated professional, her work was marked by integrity and diligence.

In terms of education, Donna demonstrated her commitment to learning by earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, followed by a Master's degree in economics from Wayne State University. This academic foundation was a testament to her love of knowledge and her desire to contribute meaningfully to her field.

Donna was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Greenwood, where she found a sense of community and belonging. After the passing of her husband, Thomas Cummings, in 2021, she continued to attend services online, cherishing the connections formed through shared faith, while also enjoying the company of her daughters during church visits when possible.

Her interests and hobbies reflected her vibrant spirit; she was an enthusiastic member of the Slovenian National Home in Indianapolis, where she looked forward to Friday family dinners and the joyous Pierogi Festival. The Grape Arbor Dance, a traditional Slovenian celebration honoring the wine harvest with folk music and dancing, held a special place in her heart. Additionally, Donna was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, relishing the monthly lunches shared with fellow ladies and celebrating friendship.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Tracy (John) Guinn and Melissa (Robert) Hardy; her step-daughters, Mary Green and Diane Brown; her cherished grandchildren, April Guinn and Luke Guinn; as well as her beloved dogs, Uno and Dezi.

A visitation will be held on January 16, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at Concordia Lutheran Church LCMS, located at 305 Howard Rd, Greenwood, IN 46142. The burial will take place on the same day at 2:30 PM at Forest Lawn Memory Garden, located at 1977 S SR 135, Greenwood, IN 46143.

Donna Jean Cummings will be remembered fondly for her devotion to family, her passion for her heritage, and her generous spirit that touched the lives of many.
