Diana Lynn Mehlhop

Diana Lynn Mehlhop, 78, a resident of Watersmeet, MI, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026.

Born in DesPlaines, Illinois to Walter and Mathilda Sass, she lived most of her life in Schaumburg, Illinois and Watersmeet, Michigan. More recently, she spent time in Indianapolis and enjoyed being part of the Marquette senior living community.

Diana is survived by her husband Dick, her twin sister Dolores Rood (Doug), her two children, Andy (Melissa) and Doug (Jennifer). She was a devoted grandmother to Grace and Tyler and step-grandson Oliver, and a favorite aunt of multiple nieces and their families. Diana was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dan.

Diana’s greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. She will be most remembered for her ability to form many lasting and meaningful friendships. She was an avid reader and loved outdoor activities like boating, hiking, kayaking, snowmobiling, and bird watching.

Diana showed us what real bravery looks like and how to live life with grace and adversity. She will be missed beyond words. She was a truly beautiful person in all aspects of her life.

A memorial to celebrate Diana’s life will be held on August 8th at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois, with visitation from 11am to 2pm and a service from 2-2:30pm.
