Dewey Harvey Davis, 90, of Mooresville, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home on January 21, 2024.
Dewey was born to Dewey and Fannie (nee Bradley) Davis on July 8, 1933 in Windsor, Kentucky, and went on to graduate from Nancy High School in 1953. On July 6, 1955, Dewey married his loving wife Justene Marie (nee Maynard) in Rossville, Georgia. They moved to Indianapolis in 1956.
Dewey and Justene had three children, Harvey Allen, James Daniel, and Marie Ann (Bechert).
He was employed by the Kroger Bakery in Indianapolis as a Shipping Supervisor for 30 years until he retired in 1995.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Justene Davis, Harvey Allen Davis, son, and Marie Ann (Davis) Bechert, daughter. His other survivors include seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, James Daniel in 1997.
Dewey enjoyed his time through various hobbies and interests that included woodworking, gardening, working outdoors, and listening to and/or playing bluegrass music. Dewey played a number of musical instruments, including guitar, mandolin, banjo and fiddle. In his idle time he could be found sitting in the shade whittling a piece of red cedar or detailing his truck. Dewey also enjoyed telling stories about his life experiences and spending time with his loving family. His ornery and light-hearted jokes always brought a smile to those who knew him.
Dewey was a lifelong Christian and devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, and it was one of his fondest wishes that he be remembered as a faithful Christian who loved the Lord. He was responsible for converting a number of people to Christ during his lifetime, which he considered one of his life's greatest accomplishments. He was an early advocate for the establishment of the Indianapolis Christian School for several years before it was finally chartered. For the last several years, he was a member of the Mooresville Church of Christ.
