Desmond Brian Cambridge, son of Veronica Thomas and the late Daniel Cambridge, was born on September 25, 1959, in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Desmond embodied the scripture Matthew 5:14: “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Anyone who knew him could recognize that big smile and hearty laugh a mile away. He truly loved to laugh.
Desmond was always a generous and helpful provider for his family. At a young age, he worked various jobs to help his mother support his younger siblings. He later worked as a cook, where he developed his mastery and love for all things culinary — bang bang! He eventually secured a position at British West Indian Airways (also known as “BWIA” or “Bee-Wee”). After moving to the United States, he built a successful career as a truck driver and entrepreneur. This job allowed him to learn the highways and byways of the U.S.A. like the back of his hand — he was GPS before GPS!
Desmond loved children. Though he had no biological children, he treated his nieces and nephews as his own. He doted on them, taking every opportunity to spoil them with treats and gifts. Desmond had a fervent love for his family, who truly adored him in return. He was the big, strong hero who always saved the day. This earned him nicknames like “The Mack,” “Bridge,” and “Sweetbread.”
Desmond faithfully served as Senior Usher at Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, a role he was proud of and truly enjoyed.
A true man’s man, Desmond loved motorcycles, cars, trucks — anything with a roaring engine. In his later years, his passion for cooking came alive again. He started a family chat where he encouraged everyone to show off their top-tier culinary skills. He always ended his contribution with a double tap of his spoon on his pot while shouting “Bang Bang!” Everyone knew this was his way of dropping the mic — and that we’d better bring our A-game next time. His memory will live on in that chat.
On January 21, 2026, at the age of 66, Desmond departed this world to meet his Heavenly Father in glory. He joins his late father, Daniel Cambridge, and his sister, Ursula “Diane” Cambridge.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his beloved mother, Veronica Thomas; his siblings, Rosemarie Gittens, Winston Cambridge, Selma Cambridge, Alfred Thomas, Israel Thomas, Nathaniel Thomas, Gerard Thomas, and Anthony Cambridge; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who will miss him immensely.
