Denise Clara Schaefer, 62, passed away on October 29, 2026. Born on March 13, 1964, in Breese, Illinois, Denise was the daughter of David and Annette Eversgerd. She later made her home in Danville, Indiana, and throughout her life remained a cherished presence to those who had the privilege of knowing her.

From the beginning, Denise carried a steady devotion to caring for others. A natural caregiver in both spirit and practice, she built a working life that reflected her enduring commitment to service—bringing compassion and attentiveness to each role she held, including CNA, Medical Technician, Preschool Teacher, and Preschool Director. In every setting, her care was felt not only in what she did, but in how faithfully she showed up for people day after day.

Denise was beloved for her warmth and the unmistakable energy she brought into a room. With a big personality and a loving heart, she had a way of drawing people together, often becoming the central figure within any group or community she joined. Known as a capable organizer and planner, she was the one others counted on—when something needed to be done, Denise was there, ready to help and to lead with confidence and steady purpose.

She also found joy in the comforts of home and creativity. Denise loved baking, cooking, and crafting—simple pleasures that, in her hands, became meaningful expressions of care and connection.

Denise is survived by her husband, Melvin; daughter, Annette Schaefer of Ferguson, MO; son, Eric (Michaela Baldwin) Schaefer of Millstadt, IL; grandsons, Zebediah and Alaric, both of Millstadt, IL; brothers, Lynn, Craig, Brian, and Keith; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Mike.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 14 at Mimi's Subway Bar and Grill, 46 N. Florissant Road, Ferguson, MO 63135.

Denise will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection—for a life devoted to others, for the love she gave so freely, and for the lasting imprint she leaves on her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to share in her life.
