Delbert Leroy Moorhouse, better known as Butch, was born to Ileen and Vern Moorhouse on January 9, 1961, in Indianapolis, IN. He was the fifth of six children. Never one to be scholastically minded, he was a rebel. He chose to enlist in the National Guard, which he credited with giving him structure and discipline. In the early ’80s he met Sondra. They were both dating other people but were drawn to each other. Sondra had a son from a previous relationship, James York, and Butch filled the role of dad for him. Then, in the mid‑’80s, his first daughter, Nicole Moorhouse, was born. Sondra and Butch finally married in 1988; their second daughter, Angela Moorhouse, was already on the way. His kids were his world—his proudest accomplishment. He grew into the role of family patriarch and was looked to as a father figure by his nephews Teddy and Joey. He became the person everyone came to when they had a problem. As time passed, he grew into his favorite role of all: grandfather. Alex came first, then Destiny, followed closely by Bryan, with Amelia being the last grandchild. He loved being a grandfather so much. He loved all his grandkids, but he had an especially close relationship with his grandsons Alex and Bryan. He taught Alex how to play baseball and ended up the team grandpa. That was Butch.

He worked in the same industry for almost 40 years. During that time he made lasting impressions on his coworkers and even some long‑time customers. He had a habit of making friends everywhere he went, especially animals. He shared a love of cats with his younger brother Jerry Moorhouse. They had a strong bond; his baby brother had a special place in his heart. Butch is leaving behind a rich legacy carried on by all those whose lives he touched. Sadly, it was his time to go. We weren’t ready, but we had to let him go. He won’t be alone. He was preceded in death by his father, Vern; his mother, Ileen; his oldest sisters, Renova and Nancy; an older brother who passed in infancy; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved dog son, Batman. He is survived by his sister Loretta; brother Jerry; wife Sondra; son James York; daughters Nicole and Angela; grandchildren Alex, Destiny, Bryan, and Amelia; nephews; cousins; and all those people on whom he left a lasting impression. He will live on anytime someone remembers his dad jokes, stubbornness, skill, or a lesson he taught, whether intentional or unintentional. He is deeply loved and will always be missed. Until we meet again, Butch— but not too soon.
