Debra Jo Cooper, born on April 22, 1952, passed away on January 2, 2026, at Rosegate Village. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Debra enriched the lives of those around her with her warmth and creativity.
A proud graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Debra furthered her education by earning a nursing degree from Indiana Central University. She dedicated her career to nursing, working in various long-term care facilities, where her compassionate nature and dedication to her patients made a lasting impact.
Beyond her professional achievements, Debra was renowned for her many talents. A gifted artist, writer, published poet, and musician, she expressed her creativity in various forms. In her retirement, she found joy in caring for her beloved plants and nurturing the many cats she rescued and fostered over the years. Debra was also a devoted grandmother, relishing the time spent with her grandchildren: Tristan Lucas, Aidan Burr, Abby Liddle, and her two great-grandchildren.
Debra shared a deep bond with her companion, Jim Bosley, who faithfully stood by her side through her battle with illness. Their love was a testament to resilience and unwavering support.
She is survived by her son, Robert Burr; daughter, Mary Ballard; niece, Jennifer Nietz; nephew, Cory Yaryan; and her cherished grandchildren. Debra is preceded in death by her parents, Jody and Mary Jane Day, and her sisters, Sandra Day and Anita Diane Day.
At this time, there are no services scheduled. Debra's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, and she will be fondly remembered for her extraordinary life and contributions to her family and community. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
