Deborah Sue Deer

March 25, 1955 — January 4, 2024

Indianapolis

Deborah Sue Deer passed away peacefully in her home, Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 68 after many years of her battle with cancer. Debbie was born in Sandusky, Ohio to Robert and Norma Young. She was married for 49 years to the love of her life, Gary Deer, and together they raised three sons, Jon, Luke and Jake. 

Debbie was known for her uncompromising faith and compassionate spirit. Her passion was reading and teaching the Word of God. Throughout her life, she taught Sunday School, Bible Study Fellowship, and Discipleship classes within the church. Many of her favorite things to do were spending time her friends' playing games, writing and sending cards, cooking meals for others to enjoy, being with family, traveling, and spontaneous adventures. She was known for her green thumb. She spent countless hours planting flowers-- so Gary had to trim around them, finding Gary big rocks to retrieve, and felt the obligation to take care of the home she prayer for and God had blessed our family with. 

Throughout her professional life she had many different jobs and experiences. Early in her career, she was known as a Double Mint twin and being a model for several agencies and businesses. She worked as an office manager within insurance, banking, construction, the church, and ran the family business. 

She is survived by her husband, Gary Deer. Sons; Jon, Luke (Shannon, Akasha), and Jake (Carrie, Genesis) Deer, sister, Donna Craig of Knoxville, TN; brother, Gregory (Cynthia) Young of New Palestine, IN; and brother, Ben (Maureen) Young of Dallas, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Norma Young, and her grandson, Lucas Deer.

The Deer family will be hosting a celebration of life service on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at The Creek Church. Visitation is starting at 10:30am with a service to follow at 1:00pm. Donations made in lieu of flowers will be used to honor Debbie's favorite ministry, Camp Allendale, c/o Deer, 5724 S. Linwood Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46237.
