David peacefully departed from us after a 2 1/2-month battle with toxic metabolic encephalopathy.

David was born and raised in Blair Nebraska. He was the first born son of Robert and Dolores Schroeder. Dave was one of 12 children. At a young age, he developed a passion for creativity and animals. He excelled in his studies and business courses during high school. After graduating, he went straight to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska, where he spent 44 years until his retirement in 2011.

In 1972, he married Linda Anderson, and they had two children, Chris and Heidi. Later, in 1999, he met Jay Larson, eventually getting married in 2013, they spent 26 1/2 years together.


David had a wide range of interests. He self-taught himself various crafts, hobbies, cooking, electronics, and computer software. He was an excellent cook and baker, capable of crocheting, knitting, and even making a sweaters, quilts, and costumes. He was also an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, particularly enjoying British murder mysteries on television and comedy movies. He also enjoyed visiting casinos.

At home, he played the keyboard, although he had previously played the organ for the St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Dave loved his children and grandchildren, and he found immense joy in spending time with Jay and their toy poodle, Dooney.


Throughout his life, Dave had a deep affection for animals. He loved horses, dogs, cats, and any other type of animal he encountered. He had many special pets over the years. He was a very kind and loving man.

Dave leaves behind his husband Jay Larson of Noblesville, IN; son Chris (Shannon) Schroeder of Lincoln, NE; and daughter Heidi (Jeff) Sealey of Noblesville IN; grandchildren, Abram, Aisley, and August Schroeder in Lincoln, NE, Myra and Iva Sealey in Noblesville IN; sisters & brothers: Diane Frazer of Lincoln, NE; Don (Lori) Schroeder of Wagoner, OK; Ron Schroeder of Tekamah, NE; Deb (Les) Campbell of Crescent, IA; Mary (Kelly) Ducheneaux of Tekamah, NE; Margaret (Chris) Carlson of Tekamah, NE; Marti (Kurt) Potadle of Herman, NE; plus numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Preceded in death by all grandparents; parents Robert W. Schroeder, and Dolores M Miller; brother Danny Schroeder; brother Robert Schroeder; sister Denise Dick; and brother Mark Schroeder; and grandchildren, Alec, Addyson and Ashlynn Schroeder.


A celebration of life will be held in both Noblesville, IN and Nebraska at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in David’s memory to the Humane Society For Hamilton County Fishers, IN.
