Listen to Obituary

David Lamonte Crockett was born on February 11, 1959, the eldest of five children to Herbert T. Crockett, Sr., and Betty J. Parker Crockett Penman. He grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1978.

David began his professional life with Indiana Carpet Distributors, where his dedication shone through during his 25 years with the company. Starting as an installer, he worked his way up to warehouse manager, a role that reflected his leadership and commitment to doing every job with care.

After his time in the flooring business, David worked in landscaping, a field that showcased his meticulous eye for detail and love of working with his hands. Later, he transitioned into construction, working with Greyrock Construction Services for several years until his retirement.

From an early age, David had a deep passion for fishing. His favorite place in the world was sitting peacefully on a fishing bank (anywhere and at any time), rod in hand, enjoying the quiet beauty of nature. He was also a masterful mechanic who could fix just about anything and a talented painter whose skill and patience were admired by many.

David professed his faith in Christ early in life, and he carried that faith with him always. Above all, he loved his family deeply and maintained lifelong friendships, that spoke to his generous spirit and his ability to make deep human connections. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Betty, and his brother, Jeffrey Lee Crockett, Sr.

David leaves to cherish his memory his devoted partner of many years, Marcella Thomas; two brothers, Kelly Scott Crockett and Herbert Thomas Crockett, Jr.; one sister, Michelle Jones Petty (William); cousin, Dale Arthur Brown (Linda); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

David will be remembered for his steady hands, big heart, and the way he found peace and joy in the simple things, especially a quiet day spent fishing.

Arrangements are scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2025, at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, IN. Visitation is from 10am-noon. Memorial service at noon.
