David Michael "Mike" Bowers, age 80, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026 at Westminster Village North in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born May 16, 1946 in Shelbyville, Indiana to William and Jo Ann Bowers.
Mike graduated from Triton Central High School where he excelled in athletics, lettering in basketball, baseball, track, and cross country. He held the school's free throw record and was honored with the All Sports Award. Following high school, he attended Indiana Central College and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge.
Mike married his high school sweetheart, Kay, and had a successful career as an insurance professional with Farm Bureau Insurance for more than 40 years. He was a hard worker with a servant heart, who never met a stranger, loved everyone around him, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, including basketball, baseball, football, golf, fishing, biking, hiking, wiffle ball, pool, croquet, cornhole, and lawn jarts. He also enjoyed music, dancing, westerns, playing games and cards, and was even willing to play dress-up, baby dolls, and Barbies. He coached Little League, carried equipment for the Indianapolis Stars Dance and Drill Team, founded Fishers Bridge Club, and rooted for the Pacers, the Colts, the Boilermakers (and yes, even the Hoosiers). His commitment to faith and community was evident through his membership at East 91st Street Christian Church, The Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite, and The Murat Shriners.
Of all the things Mike enjoyed in life, there was nothing he loved more than Jesus and people. If you knew him, you knew he loved you and was rooting for you! He worked hard, played hard, and loved hard. And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love! (1 Corinthians 13:13)
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Kay Bowers; his children, Todd Bowers and Amy Troyer; his grandchildren Megan Troyer and Grant Troyer; his brother Russell (Diane) Bowers; and many cherished extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held at Westminster Village North, in Aspen Commons Activity Room, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Westminster Village North for caring for him and walking alongside us in his final days.
Honorary donations can be made to St Jude Children's Hospital at stjude.org.
