Mr. Darryl T. Johnson (“Teddy”) was born on November 9, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Edd Morris and Anna Grace Johnson. Teddy, as most knew him, was one of five children: Doretha “Cookie” Smith, Marva “Dolly” Johnson, Carolyn “Tootsie” Johnson, and Edd Johnson Jr.
He attended IPS #44 and Northwest High School before moving to Ohio, where he completed his education at Elyria High School and later the School of ATI Welding. Teddy went on to work as an independent contractor; there were few things he could not fix.
On February 15, 1992, Teddy was united in marriage to Marcia Grubbs. Together they shared 33 years of love and partnership.
Teddy had a spirited way about him; he could stir things up with a smile and just as quickly fill the room with laughter. He was full of life, always teasing, always playing especially with his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, who adored his mischievous spirit.
He was a grill master whose barbecue could bring the entire family together. His love for fishing brought him a sense of peace that we all admired.
He showed love in a way that was uniquely his: bold, funny, helpful, and unforgettable. We will miss him deeply, but his warmth, laughter, and stories will live on in all of us.
Teddy departed this earthly life on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd Morris, and Anna Grace Johnson; his brother, Edd Johnson Jr.; and his sister, Carolyn “Tootsie” Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Marcia Johnson; his sisters, Doretha “Cookie” Smith and Marva “Dolly” Johnson; his daughters, Maishia Cox (Ramondo) and Monica Bingham (Brian); seven grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
