Darlene Elaine Lewis

Darlene Elaine Doty Lewis of Cicero, Indiana died on Sunday, July 13,2025, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Mary McDonald Doty born on July 23, 1949, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She lived with her parents and sister Denise in Johnson County. She graduated from Center Grove High School in 1967, where she participated in many organizations, and went on to pursue a degree in Nursing at the University of Indianapolis. She received her degree in 1969 and was proud to be a registered nurse for 56 years. She started her career at General Hospital in Indianapolis (Eskenazi Hospital) and proceeded to the operating room at the Veteran’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Continuing her career at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, she was a Charge Nurse for many years. She finished her nursing career as a Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse where she found her true calling, and after many years retired but stayed up on her license (for just in case).

On the weekends she enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Colts and sitcoms. She also enjoyed reading books, especially cookbooks, and shopping. She was an avid traveler. She loved going to Florida and Tennessee and recently discovered the New England States where she had a ball.

Darlene married Michael Jensen on March 22nd, 1975, and gained a bonus son of Charles “Chuck” Jensen. Together Darlene and Michael went on to have their son Jonathan C. Jensen in 1984.

Darlene married Victor E. Ward on February 13th, 1993, and their marriage ended at his passing on September 18th, 2013.

Darlene went on to marry Tommy “Tom” Lewis on March 22, 2017, and they were happily married until her passing. They enjoyed traveling, watching NASCAR and taking care of their beloved dog Peepers. Darlene and Tom attended the Sherian United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Bob” and Mary McDonald Doty, sister Denise Doty, her former husband Victor E. Ward and beloved dog Peepers.

She is survived by: her husband Tommy “Tom” Lewis of Cicero; bonus son Charles “Chuck” (Karen) Jensen of Indianapolis; son Jonathan (Sarah) Jensen of Sheridan; bonus daughters Kim Roswarski of Lafayette, Gloria (Mike) Frazier of Ohio, and Shayrehah Lewis of Whiteland; her sisters-in-law Ann (Debbie) Cardwell of Kentucky, Mary (Robert) Eaker of Camby, and Julie (Gene) Counce of Camby; 8 Bonus Grandchildren; 7 Bonus Great Grandchildren; and 4 Grand Cats.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sheridan United Methodist Church located at 207 E 2nd Street, Sheridan, IN 46069 on Saturday, July 19th at 11:30 am.
