Danny Wayne Buechler, 79, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026. He was born on March 25, 1947, in Shelbyville, Indiana, and spent most of his life in Greenfield, aside from a brief adventure hitchhiking and living in California with his Aunt.

Danny served his country in the United States Marine Corps., spent many years driving a roll-off truck and earlier enjoyed racing cars at Kitley. Before Rheumatoid arthritis slowed him down, he prided himself on teaching his children how to fish and coached many generations in baseball through GYBA. Life slowed him down, but it opened the door to some of his most cherished moments—time spent with his grandchildren. As “Papaw,” he created lasting memories through “Papaw School” and movie nights, assuring everyone had lots of snacks.

He had a deep love for music and was a talented musician who played the banjo and spent many years playing guitar, often filling the room with old-time country songs. He also had a passion for motorcycles and rock and roll. Above all, Danny’s greatest love was for his family, especially his beloved wife, Rinda, his grandchildren, and his loyal dog, Bentley.

Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Rinda Buechler; his mother, Irene Swinford; and his brothers, Steve Young and Tim Young.

He is survived by his children: Anthony (Kim) Buechler, Laura (Scott) Baker, Nichelle (Chris) Hunter, Teresa Lawson, and Daniel (Lara) Buechler. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Austin (Tiarra), Megan (Wyatt), Rebecca (Sean), Loghan, Kayla, Jillian, Kiara, Rylee, Samantha, Chloe, Jaxon, Declan, Brody, and Remington; and his great-grandchildren: Joselynn, Baylee, Charlotte, Shayla, Izach and Sophia. He is also survived by his aunt Marie Jagger.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his and now our dear friend, Caroline Trent, for her unwavering love, devotion, and care. Her daily visits—often more than once a day—and her encouragement and tell-him-how-it-is conversation that we struggled to have with him meant more than words can express. They are also deeply grateful to the three nurses, Erika, Hannah, and Logan (who even came in on her days off to check on him), who provided compassionate care during the final year of his life.

Danny will be remembered for his mischievous laugh, his music, his stories—and boy did he have stories—and the family bonds formed. His memory will live on in the memories he created in each of his family and friends.

We take comfort in knowing he is free from the pain of his earthly body and reunited with his beloved wife, Rinda.

Celebration of Life will be held at Brandywine Community Church Chapel on May 2, 2026. Calling starts at 10:00AM and service will follow at 11:11AM.
