Daniel Warren

January 2, 1937 — May 28, 2025

Daniel C. Warren passed from this life into the arms of our Lord on May 28, 2025. Dan was born in Indianapolis, along with his twin sister Dottie, on January 2, 1937, to parents Robert and Frances H Warren, who preceded him in death.

Dan attended St. Philip NERI Grade School and graduated from Cathedral, where he continued on to proudly serve his country in the Marine Corps from 1955 to 1958 as an auto mechanic at Camp Pendleton, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Dan was also a member of the Marine Corps Judo team for 2 years. Dan joined the IUEC in 1960 and retired from Schindler Elevator in 1994.

June 30, 1962, Dan married his beloved, Rosemarie Gehrich. The love, respect, and devotion they had for each other were apparent after almost 63 years of marriage.

A true adventurer at heart, he found great joy in the outdoors which included his lifelong love of motorcycles, whether riding on the open road or racing through the dirt. He also had great pleasure in learning how to do many things including boating, skiing on both water and snow, tennis, golfing, and hunting. He was very proud of the 4 holes in one he achieved at Quail Creek Golf Club. His philosophy of never stop pursuing new skills resonated with his children, Susie, Danny, and Donna, with his son remembering one of Dan’s oft-stated quotes of, “figure it out” whenever Danny asked his dad how to do something. This character-building philosophy is part of his legacy passed down to all three children.

Never one to shy away from challenges, Dan, along with his sister Dottie and their respective families, acquired adjoining property in North Salem, Indiana, where Dan “figured it out” by teaching himself and tending to his small farming operation.

After their children “left the nest”, Dan and Rosemarie moved to Avon, Indiana where their loving home was a welcoming respite to family and friends alike, a place of acceptance and warmth.

Dan's greatest joy came from his family. He was a loving and devoted husband to Rosemarie, a proud and supportive father, and a playful, wise grandfather known for his quiet strength, steady presence, and quick wit. He didn’t often have a lot to say but when he did speak, his demeanor, thoughtful words, and unwavering character spoke volumes. He earned the respect of those who knew him, not through grand gestures but by living a life of humility, kindness, and care for those around him.

A long-running family joke was the way Dan mowed his lawn and the burn pile often piled high with fallen limbs and assorted yard debris. Rosemarie detested it, yet it never seemed to go away. Due to his failing health, he had to relinquish the mowing to his grandsons. During a spike in his energy during his last week on earth, and much to Rosemarie’s consternation, Dan decided he needed to mow that grass! So, in his final act of service to the wife he adored, with a cigar clenched in his teeth, a gleam in his eye, and a playful smile on his lips, Dan mowed that yard and burned that pile down to ashes one last time for the most beloved person in his life. This act, in a nutshell, was the epitome of who Dan Warren was as a person. His family was the anchor in his life, and his legacy of love, laughter, and adventure lives on through them.

Dan is survived by his adoring wife, Rosemarie Gehrich Warren, children Susie (Mike) Gregory, Danny (Teresa) Warren, and Donna Warren Garner, grandchildren Nicole Gregory, Jacob Gregory, Clayton Garner, Daniel Garner, and James Garner, his sister Dorothy (Dottie) Young, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
