Listen to Obituary

Daniel Eugene Pfaffenberger, 53 of Carmel, IN. passed away peacefully at home with his life partner, Felicia Hester by his side. For the past two and a half months Daniel had received loving care through Brighton Hospice. During that time his family, friends and members of the recovering community, which he was a part of for the last 25 years, filled the house with music, stories, laughter, love, and steadfast companionship.

Dan was passionate about music, and it was one of his most powerful ways of expressing himself and connecting with the world. In these final months countless afternoons were spent on the back deck where he sang and played guitar and harmonica alongside lifelong friends and bandmates that he performed with over the past 2 decades. Those gatherings became something sacred – moments filled with profound connection through harmonies, storytelling, healing conversations, and the unmistakable love shared through expressed song.

Dan was born January 21, 1972, in Indianapolis, IN. Dan graduated from North Central High School and continued his studies at Ball State University. He built a respected career in home remodeling, partnering with his friend Jamie Dascenzo in their business, Indy Home Services. He approached his craft with the same integrity, compassion and humility he brought to all areas of his life.

Dan was a bright and articulate wordsmith, a gifted song writer, and someone who could engage passionately in political discussion as well as create deep communion with those he loved. His legacy will live on in his music, in his bandmates, in every life touched in recovery, and in every person who felt strengthened by his quiet generosity.

Dan is survived by his life partner; Felicia Hester, son; Mason Hester, bonus sons; Tobias Cohen, Mitchell Cohen, mother; Judith Pfaffenberger, brother; Dave Pfaffenberger and Dave’s family.

Dan was preceded in death by his father; Gene Pfaffenberger, and his sisters; Amy and Julie Pfaffenberger.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Merilyn Hester Scholarship, c/o IU Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center.
