Daniel Camacho

Daniel “Danny” Camacho, 68, of Indianapolis, passed away on March 1, 2026, at Eskenazi Hospital following a four-year battle with liver cancer.

Danny was born on April 5, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, to Fred Camacho and the late Patricia Walsh.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Walsh, and his daughter, Rebecca Rose Camacho.

Danny is survived by his father, Fred Camacho; daughters, Rachel Camacho, Jordan Camacho, Chandler Camacho; son, Jesse Camacho; six beloved grandchildren and special friend and companion of eight years, Devon Michelle Bartlett.

Danny began his lifelong journey of 12-step recovery in the mid-1980s in Indianapolis. Through that journey, he became known and loved by many. People were immediately drawn to Danny’s outgoing nature and his sincere desire to connect with everyone he met. He had a special heart for those who felt lost or forgotten—individuals struggling with homelessness, addiction, mental illness, or anyone simply in need of compassion and encouragement.

Danny had a remarkable gift for connecting with others. Whether speaking with a CEO or a major donor to a charity, an unhoused veteran, someone pushing a shopping cart filled with their life’s belongings, or the cashier at a coffee shop, Danny treated every person with dignity and kindness. He was intentional in his relationships, always asking their name to hear their story.

Danny began his career as a recovery advocate at The Healing Place in Louisville, Kentucky, before returning to Indianapolis to continue serving others. Over the years, he held positions with the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation, Harbor Light, and Horizon House. In May 2016, he joined Pathway to Recovery, where he lived, worked, and volunteered until November 2024. Danny later moved to The Compass on Washington, where he resided until his passing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Englewood Christian Church, 57 North Rural Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46201. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with the memorial service to follow at 1:30 p.m.
