Dale Ross Dickerson

Dale Ross Dickerson was welcomed into heaven Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born August 8, 1932 in Lafayette, IN, a son of the late Ross Dickerson and Vera (Rogers) Dickerson.

Dale graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1950 and went on to attend Indiana University, where he was proud to be a member of the Marching Hundred band. When war became imminent, he left IU and joined the US Air Force, serving honorably during the Korean War.

Upon returning home, he married Karen Sargent and they later divorced. As a young father he loved attending his son’s baseball games, daughter’s dance recitals and musicals and helping with 4-H.

After attending business college, Dale was employed in the insurance business as an underwriter most of his life. He enjoyed playing golf and watching sports, especially IU football and basketball.

He met his soulmate, Connie Walter on a blind date arranged through friends, they were engaged a month later and then married December 22, 1991 at the Christian Church in Thorntown, where she was a member. Together they became active members of New Hope Christian Church in Whitestown where Dale had membership and have been faithful and active members for 35 years. Dale had been active in the Jaycees, Lebanon Elks and Masonic Lodge, and was a driver for Senior Services. He was most recently a volunteer at Witham Hospital.

Dale and Connie worked two seasons at Yellowstone National Park in the gift shop during tourist season. He and Connie loved playing cards with friends. They also did a lot of traveling with their camper, taking grandkids two at a time on trips for their birthdays and also taking their whole family on various extended vacations including a cruise, Gulf Shores, Virginia Beach and Opryland Hotel. They were devoted to their family, always hosting family dinners and making sure birthdays and holidays were celebrated in special ways.

Dale is survived by his wife Connie, sister Bonnie (AJ) LaClave, brother Carroll (Margaret) Dickerson, son Randy (Heather) Dickerson of Noblesville, daughter Beth (Harold) Folden of Virginia, step-daughter Shelly (Steve) Koontz of Lebanon and step-daughter Kelly (Mike) Dozier, of Crawfordsville. Grandchildren include Seth (Alyssa) Hungate of Cicero, Elise (Jeremy) Hodges of Lebanon,

Conner (Savannah) Dickerson of Indianapolis, Kaley (Connor) Cunningham of Noblesville, Tom (Megan) Koontz of Thorntown, Brian (Natalia) Koontz of Pennsylvania, Aaron (Cheyanne) Norman of Lebanon and Adam (Lainie) Norman of Montana. Great grandchildren include Genevieve and Bo Koontz, Lily and Liam Norman, Yago and Fausto Koontz, Vincent and Hadley Norman, Cora, Stella and Nyla Hungate, Coen Cunningham, and Cooper and Adalyn Hodges, plus many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynette Arlene.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 8, at New Hope Christian Church with Rev. David Bourne officiating. Full military rites will follow. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00 with the service beginning at 11:00.

Final care of Dale has been entrusted to Indiana Funeral Care and entombment will be at the Thorntown Cemetery.
