Consuelo Martinez, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Consuelo was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, to Nieves and Guadalupe Hernandez on September 26, 1938, where she also attended school. A woman of determination and lifelong learning, she later completed her GED in Chicago, Illinois. On December 30, 1968, she married the love of her life, Juan Manuel Martinez, in their shared hometown of Aguascalientes. Throughout her life, Consuelo was a dedicated worker across various roles before enjoying a well-earned retirement.
Devout in her faith and deeply committed to her community, Consuelo dedicated more than 40 years to religious ministries at Epiphany Catholic Church in Chicago. Upon moving to Indianapolis, she beautifully continued her service to the church as a lector at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
She was welcomed into eternity by her beloved parents and her siblings: Ramon, Isaura, Manuel, Soledad, Berta, Jorge, Martha, and Alejandro Hernandez.
Her legacy of love and faith lives on through her surviving family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Juan Manuel Martinez; her cherished children, Alejandro (Rosa) Martinez and Juan Jose (Kelly) Martinez; her beloved grandchildren, Isaac, David, Sofia, and Matthieu; her dear sister, Maria Luisa; her nephew, Jose Luis (Leah) and their children, Sophie, Abigail, Antonio, and Emily.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26th 20026, from 4pm to 8pm. Followed by the praying of the Holy Rosary at the conclusion of the viewing at Indiana Funeral Care East.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, May 27th 2026 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Oscar Rivas officiating. A Mercy meal will follow directly after the Memorial mass.
The family of Consuelo wishes to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff at IU Health Methodist Hospital for their exceptional care, warmth, and love during her final days.
