Clara "Bea" Drake

October 10, 1930 — September 4, 2020

Bea, born in Clinton, MO, as the daughter of Clarence and Clara Harris and was a longtime resident of Indiana. She attended school in Elkhart, IN and Denver, CO. She then served two years as a Korean War WAC CPL clerk. She became a professional Textile Reweaver owning her own Shop in Denver then marrying James Cross, followed by the birth of her two daughters. She was active in Girl Scouts, serving as a leader for five years.

She met Jack Drake in 1967, moved to Indianapolis undertaking the task of raising his four daughters along with hers. During all of this she became a Professional Children’s Photographer joining her two greatest loves, photography and children. She lived in Castleton, Greenwood, and Avon.

Her many interests included reading, live theater, all music (especially Patsy Kline), poetry, dogs and travel. She showered love on her ten grandchildren taking them to museums, amusement parks, and zoos in nine states.

She was loved by all, making friends wherever she lived or traveled. She was extremely family oriented, both immediate and extended, but spread across many states.

Bea was famous for her extensively decorated birthday cakes, especially for her pampered
grandchildren.

She was preceded by the death of her beloved father when she was eight. His love of horses and dogs became her focus.

She was also preceded by the deaths of her beloved daughter Linda and two brothers, Cliff and Chet Harris.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Drake; daughters, Suzanne Carter of Morrison, CO, Carla Funkhouser of Avon, IN, Patty Cooper of Indianapolis, IN, Terry Chockran of McGregor, TX, and Jacqueline Bonanno of Denver, CO; grandchildren Sean Chockran, Christopher Carter, Nick Chrockran, Jacob Chockran, Adrian Cooper, Conner Funkhouser, Lauren Cooper, Katie Funkhouser, Luca Bonanno, and Marco Bonanno; and great-granddaughter Hayley Chockran.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all of the Traditions Memory Unit staff for their loving care given even during Covid-19.

A memorial service date and location will be established at a later date.
