Charles "Gene" E. George, 91, of Franklin, Indiana passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at his home.
He was born on May 25, 1933 in Cumberland, Kentucky to the late Charlie and Lillie (Blair) George. Gene was drafted at the age of 20 into the US Army during the Korean War. He was a tank commander/trainer during this time. He was a volunteer with Perry Township Fire Department. He attended John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis as well as taught art for a number of years. He retired after 30 years with Rock Island/Marathon Oil Refinery.
Gene is survived by his wife of 68 1/2 years, Nancy George; children, Terry George and wife Trish, Rick George and wife Maryanne; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Gene was an artist, mechanic, musician, and all around handyman. He will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation is Friday, August 23, 2024, 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel.
Funeral service will begin at noon with Chaplain Perry Anderson officiating.
Burial to immediately follow at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis.
