Cathy Elaine Schwert, a beacon of compassion and love, passed away on February 24, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 12, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Cathy lived a life filled with warmth and generosity that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Cathy was a devoted mother to her daughters, Heather McClure, Cortney Dodd, a caring sister to Terri Smith, a cherished grandmother to her granddaughter, Asia Fisher, and aunt to her nephew Colin Lancaster. She was a proud and loving figure in their lives, instilling values of kindness, strength, and compassion that will continue to resonate through her family for generations to come. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could always make others smile and was known to fill a room with laughter. She was a strong woman who battled and survived lung cancer, demonstrating strength and courage to all that knew her. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her can attest to her vibrant personality—she was outspoken, charismatic, and always welcoming. Her caring nature and nurturing spirit provided comfort to many and left an indelible mark on those around her.
Though she faced the loss of her beloved husband John "Dave" Schwert and her parents, Delores Gadient and Kenneth Gregory, Cathy remained resilient, embodying a strength that inspired those around her. She navigated life with grace and compassion, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. Cathy’s legacy is one of love that will forever echo in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.
A visitation to celebrate Cathy's life will take place on March 7, 2026, at Indiana Funeral Care -Greenwood Chapel, from 11 AM to 1 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 1 PM, concluding at 2 PM. Family and friends are encouraged to gather and share in the memories of Cathy’s extraordinary life, honoring her spirit and the profound impact she made in this world.
Cathy Elaine Schwert will be deeply missed but will live on in the stories and hearts of all she loved and who loved her in return.
