Carolyn Nickerson

July 2, 1953 — May 21, 2024

Carolyn Ann Nickerson (nee Whitacre) passed into eternity and the presence of our Lord and Savior on May 21st, 2024, at the age 70, at home with her husband by her side.  She was born July 2nd, 1953, in Indianapolis at Methodist Hospital to Mark Benton and Patricia Anne Whitacre (nee Allinder), the second child of their six children.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Randy Dean Nickerson; her son, Stephen Mark Wilcoxon; and grandson, Joshua Stephen Wilcoxon.  She is also survived by her sisters, Debbie (Doug) Crall and Nancy (Tim) Kugler; brothers, Kirk (Kathy) Whitacre and John Whitacre; sister-in-law, Suzie Whitacre (nee Armour); her nieces, Jamie Kugler, Carrie Graf (nee Kugler), Christina Whitacre, Sable Whitacre (nee Rollins), Lottie Yeager (nee Iams), Crystal Kugler (nee Gardner), Kayla Kugler (nee Hilton), and Brittany Williams (nee Nickerson); her nephews, Andrew Whitacre, Ryan Whitacre, Jacob Kugler, and Jason Kugler; great nieces, Gracie Kugler, Lovely Whitacre, Journee Whitacre, ; great nephews Joshua Hutto, Elisha Whitacre, Jace Kugler, Aidan Yeager, Savion Yeager, Matson Yeager, Jayce Waiter, and Kaston Waiter and Chaz Nickerson; great-great niece, Jessica Sue Yeager; and great-great nephew, Brady Williams.

She was preceded by her parents, her brother, Roger Whitacre; her niece, Lindsy Whitacre; and her nephews, Kirk Whitacre and Patrick Yeager.

Our Carolyn was one of a kind.  Smart as a whip, curious about everything, able to retain tons of stuff she saw, read, or heard, fearless, and fiery at times.  Carolyn felt things deeply and empathized with family, friends and strangers who would share
with her a struggle, problem, or insecurity they were having.  She had a way of listening, understanding, and encouraging them.  They always came away feeling lighter and more at ease with themselves and/or the situation.  Carolyn was loving, kind, generous, compassionate, and most importantly, in love with her Savior, Jesus Christ.  Her desire to hear Him say "Well done, good and faithful servant." was ever on her heart and mind.

She had an innate and creative artistic talent that was evident from an early age.  She used these God given talents in a plethora of mediums with beautiful results.  In her working career, she was the graphic designer for an embroidery and emblem company for many years.  She also worked as an optician for several optical businesses in Indianapolis.  Her compassion and artistic eye helped many young and old patients find the perfect frame for their face and she took the precise  measurements necessary to create the exact lens the doctor prescribed. Her attention to detail made the patient's visit a pleasant experience.

It is so hard to say goodbye to someone you've loved so much for so long.  But we who know and follow the Living Savior, Jesus Christ,  do not grieve as those who have no hope.  There will be a day when we will join our Savior and all those who have gone before for an eternity of praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, peace like a river, and abiding love from the one that gave His life for us while we were yet sinners.
