Carolyn J. Marshall, known affectionately as Jeannie, peacefully passed away, reuniting at last with her beloved husband Melvin Marshall, who had awaited her since 1991. Together in life since their marriage in Gary, Indiana, in 1971, their enduring bond remains a testament to true love.
For 35 cherished years, Jeannie made her home in East Monticello, where she nurtured a profound love for nature. Among her many passions was birdwatching; she delighted in training the hummingbirds that returned each year to her yard, responding to the simple whistle that invited their presence. Her devoted care extended to her beloved Chihuahuas, Shorty and Petey, who were lovingly tended by Melvin during her illness.
Jeannie’s warmth and spirited nature left an indelible mark on her family, especially her granddaughters. Kristana Perez of Lafayette fondly recalls Jeannie’s endearing insistence to “get her butt in the car” for their coffee outings by the drive-in station—a ritual that became a treasured tradition. Scotlynn Clark of West Lafayette cherished the riveting stories Jeannie shared about the storms and tornadoes she had endured, each tale a reflection of her resilience and strength.
A daily visit to the gas station by the drive-in for coffee, often accompanied by one of her faithful Chihuahuas, was a simple pleasure where Jeannie engaged in lively conversations with Betty, the corn stand lady, discussing all that life had to offer.
In her final months, Jeannie courageously faced a six-month battle with cancer. Her daughter, Mandy Sullivan, was blessed to provide loving care, honoring Jeannie’s heartfelt wish to pass peacefully at home. Alongside Mandy and her best friend Andrea Lobenthal of Rossville, Indiana, Jeannie was surrounded by comfort and compassion. The dedicated support of Heart To Heart Hospice, compassionate neighbors Serina and Joe Meaux—Serina a cherished longtime friend and tenant—and friend James Macauley (Boogie) ensured that Jeannie’s final days were filled with grace and love.
Carolyn J. Marshall’s life was a celebration of love, family, and the simple joys of everyday moments. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and cherished memories that will forever be held dear by all who knew her.
