Carol Ann Sherwood, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed this world on January 4, 2026, at the age of 78, in Plainfield, Indiana. Born on February 14, 1947, in Waukegan, Illinois, Carol lived a life filled with laughter, love, and creative expression that touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.

Throughout her life, Carol created treasured memories with her family. One of her most memorable vacations took place in 1996 when she traveled to Hawaii to visit her son, Steve, who resided there with his family. This trip, undertaken shortly after the passing of her youngest son, Scott, allowed her to find solace and joy in the stunning landscapes of the islands. During those two weeks, Carol reveled in the beauty of Hawaii, swimming, snorkeling, attending a luau, driving around the island, and discovering waterfalls, all while enveloped in the love of her family.

Education was important to Carol, who graduated from high school in Waukegan in 1965 and later earned an Associate Degree as an administrative assistant. Her intellect was matched only by her creativity; she found joy in drawing, painting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Carol loved gathering her family together to play board games and card games, where her infectious laugh would fill the room, transforming even the most challenging moments into sources of joy and laughter.

She moved across the country, first settling in California, then making her way to Arizona, and eventually finding her final home in Indiana to be closer to her cherished children and grandchildren.

Carol's faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devout Catholic, she had a deep and abiding love for the Lord. Despite facing limited mobility over the past decade, she remained steadfast in her faith, attending Mass whenever the opportunity arose. Her spiritual beliefs were a source of strength and comfort, guiding her through life's tribulations with grace.

For 11 years, Carol dedicated herself to her career at Jockey International in Kenosha, Wisconsin, before embarking on a remarkable journey into retirement.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Susan (Jim) Whetstone; her adored grandchildren: Sebastian and Aiden Whetstone, Carly and Caitlyn Sherwood; and her dear sisters, Patricia Wendt and Debra Preder. Carol also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry her spirit in their hearts.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, Ervin and Martha (Coon) Wendt; her oldest son, Steve D. Sherwood; her youngest son, Scott D. Sherwood; and her brother, Ronald Wendt. The love she shared and the memories she created will forever resonate in the lives of those she leaves behind.

As we honor Carol's life, we remember her laughter, her creativity, and the profound love she had for her family. Her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to go to Plainfield Health Care Center, a long term nursing facility that was her home for the last 5 years of her life. They may be mailed to 3700 Clarks Creek Road, Plainfield, IN 46168.
