Calvin Wade Mitchem, born on September 13, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, also in Indianapolis. He was a beloved figure who touched the lives of many through his hard work, dedication, and unique passions.
Calvin graduated from Martinsville High School in 1974 and spent most of his adult life in Mooresville, Indiana. Throughout his career, he showcased his strong work ethic by taking on various roles. His first job at the age of 15 as a paperboy marked the beginning of a life filled with diverse professional experiences. He worked diligently at Poe's Cafeteria, RSR Quemetco, Chrysler Foundry, and spent time as an over-the-road truck driver for Schneider. His career also included significant time at Chrysler in Belvidere, Illinois, and Theisens Veneer.
Calvin’s personality was characterized by his commitment and enthusiasm. He was fully devoted to whatever task or hobby he pursued. This devotion was evident in his love for his 1986 Dodge Ram Van, a cherished gift from his father, and in his enjoyment of building and launching rockets with his dad during his youth. He had a profound interest in space and thoroughly enjoyed any activities related to that captivating realm.
His love extended beyond vehicles and hobbies; Calvin was also a proud dog owner, and his dog, Sailor, was a source of joy in his life. Sailor preceded him in death.
Calvin is survived by his siblings: Kenny Mitchem (Leigh Ann) of Owens Cross Roads, AL; Ervin Mitchem (Amy) of Edwardsport, IN; Karen Bailey (Doug) of Martinsville, IN; and Kathy Martin (Bill) of Martinsville, IN. He also leaves behind his long-time significant other, Lisa Arnett of Mooresville, IN, sister-in-law Debbie Mitchem of Morgantown, IN, and many nieces and nephews who cherished him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond L. Mitchem and Pearlie A. (Stanley) Mitchem, his brother Mark Mitchem of Morgantown, IN, and his niece Jade Mitchem of Greensburg, IN.
Calvin Wade Mitchem will be remembered as a dedicated, hardworking individual who embraced life with vigor and passion. His legacy lives on in the memories held dear by all who knew and loved him.
