Brent Douglas Calvert

Brent Douglas Calvert, much-loved husband, father, and Papa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on October 11, 2025 at the age of 78, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. Born on March 17, 1947 in Muncie, Indiana to Leon and Marie Calvert. Brent was a proud Hoosier who spent the last 18 years in Fishers, Indiana, with his loving, patient, and devoted wife, Cheri, with whom he shared over 40 years. 

Brent proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. A deeply patriotic man, he considered it one of the great honors of his life to serve his country. He was especially proud to attend multiple Veterans Day programs with his grandchildren, passing on the values of service, sacrifice, and love of country. He was a proud member of the Britton Falls Community Veterans Club, and a brick will be placed in his honor at the entrance of the community. 

Following his military service, Brent worked as a Systems Technician for AT&T/Indiana Bell for over 30 years, contributing to many major projects across the company. Two of his most memorable projects were working to update the Indiana University and Notre Dame campuses. After retiring early, he spent cherished the time helping his father, Leon to remodel homes and ultimately building a lakeside home for himself and Cheri in Anderson. He continued helping on the family farm and pursuing his many interests. 

A lifelong sports fan, Brent loved all Indiana University athletics, especially Hoosier basketball. He also cheered passionately for the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, enjoyed the excitement of car racing, attending several Indy 500 races. Cheri even got him interested in watching professional tennis over the past ten years, although he didn’t play like her, he still enjoyed watching the matches, Brent was rarely seen without a cap or shirt from one of his favorite teams, and his Hoosier spirit never faded. 

Brent also had a true passion for vintage cars, often attending car shows and restoring classic vehicles. He was a member of the Britton Falls Auto Enthusiasts. He was remarkably handy, with skills in every area of home building and renovation. Over the years, he generously lent his time and talents to help family and friends with countless home improvement projects - always willing, always capable. 

Above all, Brent was a family man, and being “Papa” was his greatest joy. He rarely missed a game, faithfully cheering from the sidelines at hundreds of lacrosse, football, basketball, volleyball and baseball games for all of his grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for getting down on the floor to play with his grandchildren as babies, rocking them to sleep, and holding them close during quiet naps — moments his family will treasure forever. 

He is survived by his wife, Cheri, and their “favorite daughter,” Polly, their one-year-old miniature schnauzer. 

Brent Douglas Calvert leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering support - as a veteran, worker, a neighbor, a husband, and most of all, a Papa.

There will be no traditional services, at his wish. At a later date his remains will be placed at the Crown Hill Columbarium for Military in Indianapolis, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to:
